Summer Community BBQ 

George Smitherman to Host Annual Community BBQ

On Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 MPP George Smitherman will host his annual Community BBQ, rain or shine, at Allan Gardens. The event will be free of charge and open to all Toronto-Centre residents. The festivities, which will run from 12:00 until 3:00 pm, will include several entertainers from many diverse backgrounds, as well as games, face painting, children's activities and a raffle with plenty of great prizes. There will be hotdogs, including veggie and halal, and in keeping with George's recent announcement about healthy alternatives, there will also be veggie wraps, halal gyros, roasted corn and watermelon and water – all free of charge. The event's entertainment will include performers from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, such as Bangladeshi drummers, native dancers and drummers, and Lotus dancers. Also included in the entertainment will be renouned children's entertainer Jerry Levitan. This event is an excellent opportunity for local residents to meet their MPP in a fun and casual environment, and will provide a chance for Toronto-Centre's diverse neighbourhoods to come together and foster stronger community ties.
